Log Home for Sale Mount Juliet, Tennessee, USA

Welcome to our Tennessee home!
It is with mixed feelings we are offering our beloved Tennessee log home for sale. My wife and I are retired now. All the children have moved out, and we don't get around as well as we used to - - so we are moving to a single-story home on a very small lot we can more easily manage.
The land:
This 2800-square-foot home is located in a peaceful older subdivision in Mount Juliet, Tennessee. Most lots are between one and two acres; ours is 1.88 acres and is backed only by the beautiful Tennessee woods. Our land is filled with mature trees, including a very special red maple in the front yard that came from Walden Woods, where Henry David Thoreau spent time writing and contemplating nature. The woods to the side and back of the property are perfect for secret trails and garden walks. In a small glade behind the house there is even a hand-built stone fire pit where we have enjoyed many starlight Tennessee nights with friends and family. To the east of the sun room there is an English-style garden, visually separated from the front and back yards by raised beds full of herbs and flowers. There is also a hand-built inlaid brick herb garden shaped like a Celtic cross that was made to be viewed from the sun room. An old wisteria vine and silver maple overlook this lovely spot. Directly behind the house is a small herb garden off the wood deck, which is skirted by a tile and gravel patio area. This spot has been perfect for grilling - - and the gravel makes it the perfect spot for washing trailer equipment, deck chairs, etc. without creating a mud pit.
The house:
The 0000-style log home measures 2800 square feet, and has five bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and two kitchens. It has central heat and air conditioning, and an electric water heater. All appliances (stoves, refrigerators) come with the house.
Front Porch
Well, come on in! The front of the house has a nice, big, shaded front porch that has been the center of many post-dinner family gatherings over the years. We'll even leave the new porch swing if you like. This porch is nice and comfortable, even on hotter summer nights - - just as a Southern porch should be. There is plenty of room for a living room's worth of porch furniture, and we have even brought out our indoor furniture when we had more family than chairs.
Living Room
The front door is very special; the outside was hand-made from cedar planks. Once you come inside, you have the beautiful sight of a cathedral-ceiling living room. The upstairs hallway has a balcony that overlooks the living room, and a ceiling fan keeps the air moving. There is a Franklin-style stove which we have enjoyed for lovely evening fires - - and once or twice that stove has kept the house warm through winter power outages. I highly recommend those wood stoves over regular fireplaces for heat value.
Dining Room
The dining room is connected to the kitchen, and opens out to the living room. We have liked the open dining room, and felt it gave us many more options for furniture layout (which my wife likes to change, often). We could watch the kids (and later the grand-kids) playing in the back yard while we enjoyed an after-dinner coffee at the table.
Kitchen
The kitchen is nice and large, and it was always big enough for the whole family to gather in when they came for visits. Somehow we always ended up standing around in the kitchen! There is plenty of room for a kitchen table, and we also had an enormous sideboard where my wife kept the good china plates. We put in new high-quality vinyl flooring, but we decided not to do a complete remodel of the shelves and cabinets when we moved. Everything is in great shape and we liked it the way it was, but we figured that if the next folks want to update things, they might like to pick them out personally. We took the cost of this off the asking price of the house, just in case.
Mud Room/Utility Room
Off the kitchen, and leading to the back door, is a mud/utility room. This is where the water heater is kept, and this is where we also had our washer and dryer hookups. There is also plenty of room here for a cabinet and/or set of shelves if you like.
Master Bedroom
The “master” bedroom is nice and large, and has two large windows and two full-size closets. There is also a full bathroom between this bedroom and the kitchen.
Sun Room
We added this sunroom when my dear old mother-in-law lived with us. The sun room opens directly off the master bedroom, and has its own small deck overlooking the side gardens. It has been a lovely place for us to enjoy breakfast (it faces east and south), and it gets plenty of light/warmth in the winter when the sun is low in the sky. We wish we had added it sooner!
In-Law Suite/Entertaining Rooms
At the north end of the sunroom is a second kitchen, also added for my mother-in-law. There is also a full bath with easy walk-in shower. At the north end of the kitchen, and overlooking the large back deck, is an extra-large bedroom/living room suite/entertaining room with two large closets, raised ceiling, and premium-quality sliding door. This suite has been just wonderful for us. We have entertained with it, and you can easily serve from the second kitchen out to the back deck. You can even use this “bonus” room as an entertainment room and set up serving tables there. At one time we kept a big fold-out couch and other furniture there for our wayward children and occasional relatives. Our sons have even used that suite when they didn't want to wake anyone up on those early hunting mornings, since the back kitchen and bonus room both have private entrances opening out to the back deck. This has really been the most flexible living space we could imagine. If we didn't have an upstairs to the house, my wife and I would probably just stay over in that suite and not sell the place.
Upstairs
The upstairs of the main house has three bedrooms. All three have nice cathedral ceilings and ceiling fans, and the largest one (yes, my daughter's room) has two closets. There are also two study nooks in the hallways, and a good-sized hall closet. The full bathroom is as large as a bedroom, and has its own linen closet. My wife had a dressing table in that bathroom, and there was still plenty of room in there. That bathroom also has a cathedral ceiling.
Other specs:
The HVAC unit is a 000000 brand, and was newly installed in 0000. The roof was replaced in 0000. Two storage buildings come with the property. One is 10 x 12, and one is 10 x 10. Both flank the paved driveway. The house features a septic tank. The City of Mount Juliet may be extending its city sewer options within the next couple of years for those interested in connecting. We have liked having a septic and not dealing with the expense of a city sewer bill. We will be happy to provide examples of our heating and other utility bills for seriously interested folks. Since we moved to our new single-story home, we have found that the utilities are similar to what we paid for our much-larger log home. We spent years making that log home more energy efficient, and it certainly made a difference. This home has been the source of many happy memories for us and for our family. Four generations have enjoyed the place, and it is with heavy hearts that my wife and I move to a smaller house that is easier for us to take care of as we get older. While we certainly intend to sell our dear log home, we hope it will be truly enjoyed by someone who will love and appreciate it as much as we have over the years. It is a special place on a very special plot of land. If you love the sound of the rain while sitting on the front porch on a summer night; if you love a “lived-in” log home whose living, breathing wood creaks occasionally; if you want to sit by a fire listening to crickets while the Milky Way stretches overhead; if you want to watch deer grazing in the woods while you enjoy your coffee in the morning; if you want to feel connected to this beautiful state and still be able to commute to work; if you want plenty of flexible space for the folks you love; then you might be the next person or persons to enjoy our home. Please feel free to contact us through this website if you would like more information or an appointment to see our Mount Juliet log home.
